Pick-A-Pearl in Epcot

June 17, 2014

My daughter and I like to do something girly together on trips to Walt Disney World. Shopping is of course at the top of our list, but now that my daughter is a little older, we like to do other things as well.

One of our favorite activities is to visit the Japan pavilion in Epcot and Pick-a-Pearl inside the Mitsukoshi store. For $18 you can choose an oyster from the tank. They make it really fun by doing a countdown 3-2-1 in Japanese (sun, knee, itchy) and open the oyster to reveal your pearl.

They open the oyster, clean it, measure it, and congratulate you several times! It really is a fun experience for everyone involved.

There are several different sizes and colors of pearls, and some oysters even have two pearls inside! During our most recent visit, our daughter was one of the lucky ones to have gotten an oyster with two pearls inside.

Once you have your pearl, you can choose from a variety of different settings such as rings, earrings, necklaces, and charms. My daughter and I chose matching rings as one of our options. The total cost for these was around $35 each and they were ready for pick up in under 2 hours!

It’s fun and can be inexpensive and it gives us something to keep as a souvenior from our vacations together. It’s something we don’t mind doing during each trip because you never know what size or color (or how many!) pearls you’ll get.
